Tomato-Onion Chutney
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُم (As-salāmu ʿalaykum, “peace be upon you”).
Tomato-onion(thakkali-venkayam )chutney is easy to cook and easy to remember recipe.Even the dummies in cooking could grasp the ingredients. At my home it's one of the quick recipes cooked at lunch time.Best to serve with White rice,Dosa,Idly.
Cook and serve this delicious chutney to beloved ones and cheer them.Servings:6 ;Cooking Time:15 mins
Ingredients:Preparation:
- Tomatoes : 4 medium-sized
- Onion : 1 small-size
- Garlic : 2 -4 cloves
- Oil : 3 -4 tbsp
- Mustard seeds : 1 teaspoon
- Curry leaves : 6-10
- Powders to add:
- Red chilly powder: 1/2 tbsp
- Turmeric/Haldi powder:1/2 tbsp
- Jeera-methi powder/Cumin-Fenugreek powder:1/2 tbsp
- and Salt to taste
- Optional:Water
- Slice the tomatoes and grind into fine paste.
- Chop the onion finely.
Method:
- Heat the oil in pan and add chopped onion,mustard seeds,curry leaves,garlic cloves and saute until onion and garlic softens.
- Pour the tomato paste into the pan and stir well.
- Now add all the powders mentioned under the ingredients list along salt and stir well.
- Close the lid and allow the pan to stay on a low flame untill the masala/powders smell disappears.
- Stir well and check whether the thick paste formed.
- Serve with rice,dosa,idly and enjoy.
Tip:Use fresh and red tomatoes for delicious taste and beautiful red color without food color powders.
